Remembering our Heroes

I cannot believe tomorrow will be 9 years since we were attacked on September 11th. That was such an awful, scary, traumatic, devastating time for America. I did not know anyone personally that was involved in the tradegy, but my heart broke for each and every person on the East Coast. I was driving to work listening to the radio about what just happened. I remember the  freeways were very calm (which is so unusual in Los Angeles). It freaked me out a bit. I called my mom and she quickly explained what had just happened to America. Once I got to work, everyone was talking about it...watching the news, reading the internet. Oh it was awful, I starting crying for all the families who lost loved ones. To this day I still think about how America was so badly affectly by that day. We are still trying to figure out how to get back to normal life. Nothing is the same since that Septemeber day. Airports are not the same, security across the world is not the same, people are much more cautious of their surroundings now. One thing that truly touches my heart, that gives me the chills (in a good way) is how many men and women joined the armed forces (military, law enforcement, fire department). All those people that joined after 9/11 have a special place in my heart, they want to serve and protect this country, and are willing to give up their lives for the rest of us....that is so admirable to me.
My hubby was in the marines (we lived at Camp Pendleton for about a year) and to see how many people are protecting our country and what they personally go through and their loved ones is so touching. (I am literally tearing up right now) I have a very special place in my heart for the military and their loved ones, I think what they do for our country is so patriotic and so selfless. I was 17 when 9/11 occured, and let me just tell you from that point on, I have become so patriotic and have such a love for America.
This song by Toby Keith says it all...I blast this song whenever I hear it on the radio....

"American Girls and American Guys
We'll always stand up and salue
We'll always recognize
When we see Ole Glory Flying
There's a lot of men dead
So we can sleep in peace at night
When we lay down our head

My daddy served in the army
Where he lost his right eye
But he flew a flag in our yard
Till the day that he died
He wanted my mother, my brother, my sister and me
To grow up and live happy
In the land of the free.

Now this nation that I love
Has fallen under attack
A mighty sucker punch came flying in
From somewhere in the back
Soon as we could see clearly
Through our big black eye
Man, we lit up your world
Like the Fourth of July

Hey Uncle Same
Put you name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty
Started shaking her fist
And the eagle will fly
And there's gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom
Start ringing her bell
And it'll feel like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Ahhh brought to you courtesy of the Red White and Blue

Ohhh justice will be served
And the battle will rage
This big dog will fight
When you rattle his cage
And you'll be sorry that you messed with
The U.S. of A.
'Cause we'll put a boot in your ass
It's the American Way

Hey Uncle Same
Put you name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty
Started shaking her fist
And the eagle will fly
And there's gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom
Start ringing her bell
And it'll feel like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Ahhh brought to you courtesy of the Red White and Blue

Uhhh Ohhh
Of the Red White and Blue
Ohhh Ohh Oh
Of My Red White and Blue"
