My Life @ Starbucks

I just realized I haven't blogged about what it is like to work at the world famous Starbucks...wow!!! I am shocked I haven't done so. I was? am addicted to this place and I haven't even told you how it is going? Shame on me!! lol
Well I have worked at Starbucks since the end of October. Wow it has only been a little over a month?!?! It totally feels like I have been there way longer. Not sure if that is a good or bad feeling....
Anyways, my life working at Starbucks is fun and it is a job....but there is also things I do not like about it.
I love the fact that I get as much free coffee as I want when I am working. Seriously who would have thought a job would let you have free stuff. It is amazing!!! I can have what ever drink. What ever size. As often as I like. woo hoo are totally the words that come to mind :-) The first week or two I constantly had coffee. I had two a day when I would be working. And the days I didn't work, I would drive there and use my discount (30%) to get a drink. So I would say I had much too much coffee the beginning of my life at good ol' StarB :-)
Now that I have been working there for a little bit, I find myself not drinking as much...ok well when I say not as much I mean not two a day. Just one for me when I first get there. Then I always bring hubby a drink home...nice, I know :) And I occasionally bring Aarika a drink too. When I bring more than one drink home, I kind of sneak it out because we are only supposed to have one...and technically pay for the second. Just depends who is working...when the boss is away, the mice will play, right? ;)
Some days I really enjoy working at StarB. I really do. All but one person is friendly...guess what it is a girl. Girls can be total bitches, it drives me nuts. She is just oh so rude. But enough about her, she doesn't deserve my blog. I enjoy chatting with customers. I like being out of the house for a while. I love the smell of coffee. I have been addicted to Starbucks for years now, and I finally work there....just cannot get enough :-)
Every job has a bad side...yes I admit even the lovely StarB has a bad side. Please don't tell them what I say, I need the money ;) Now here comes the venting...warning you in advance. I am still fairly new, I work about 20-25 hours a week so I don't know everything yet. But man oh man people can be so mean. I even tell cusomters I am new, but they don't care. If I take one sec longer than normal they flip out. Seriously, they really do. What lady came up to the drive thru window ask said, "What the hell is the hold up?!?" I responded, "Sorry ma'am, there are a few new employees here and we are still getting used to how everything is made, etc." Lady rolls her eyes. Ok, seriously it is coffee!! Yes I have been plenty annoyed before when I have had to wait 6 minutes in the drive thru, but I NEVER EVER voice it to the baristas. That is just rude!! It is coffee people, not life or death.
I feel like a janitor when I am working. I sweep, mop, dust, clean bathrooms, clean drains, do dishes, take out trash, clean tables/chairs. I could go on and on. I am not a janitor!! I know when I was hired they warned me about this stuff, but you don't really realize how bad it is until you are in the middle of it. I do not like it one bit. I didn't go to college to be a janitor. There are some nasty people in the world. Learn to clean up after your selves!!
I have cuts all over my hands. Who would have thought working at a coffee shop would be so brutal? It totally is. I have burned my hands on the extremely hot temperatures you people ask us to make your drinks. When making whipped cream, I get the skin on my knuckle ripped off every.single.time. When doing dishes and cleaning I get tiny little cuts all over my hands. It is brutal!! ;)
Lastly, then I am done complaining...this morning I got to work at 5:00am (too early) and I walked to the back and put my apron on the table so I could set up before we opened at 5:30am. So 5:30am comes around and my apron isn't on the table. I asked the Asst. Manager if she saw it, she said no. I asked the other girl who opened if she saw it, she said no. OK seriously, one of the girls is lying and I have no idea who. I know I set my apron right on the table. Who the heck took it?!?!?! I had to borrow a used one. Can you believe they are lying to me?? I am still in shock that they are, seriously no one else was in the store, just the three of us. I am so irritated by that, it totally ruined my day. Not to mention that hubby washed it for me the night before...so it was freshly clean. I just wanted to walk out and leave at that point. I told the Asst. I wasn't paying for a new one, because I know it was one of them who took it. I was very firm in my stating that.

So all in all, it isn't the worst job. It pays for my Honda payment...well most of it. I am grateful I currently have a job. I love that I get free coffee all.the.time!! I am glad most everyone is friendly.
But those bad sides get to me more than I should let them.
Here are my recommendations for drinks/food:
Ice Skinny Vanilla
Ice Passion Tea with Raspberry Syrup
Peppermint Zebra Mocha or Zebra Mocha

Next time you go into Starbucks:
Be friendly
Have patience
Say Thank You
Smile

I hope your day gets better. I worked retail years ago and people are so rude. I try and especially be nice to people working at places because it might just be the worst day of their life and I want to help make it better. Hope things get better for you.

That is rude! I know it is annoying to wait, but it's also tough being the newbie still learning. Hope things get better --- especially with the hmm hmm coworker :)

lying to you is pretty low...and weird. Like you would think the magical apron fairies took it or something!
I worked fast food for 8 months and then retail for 6 months after college -- people are DISGUSTING and definitely RUDE! I try to be super nice to my servers/baristas/etc.

I worked in food for a while, first on campus then for a couple summers at a water park. Part of cleaning up is wiping tables, sweeping, mopping, doing the dishes, taking out the trash, etc. However, cleaning the bathrooms sounds like a janitor's job.

And I don't even think Lorelai Gilmore would be that rude to the baristas if she was on a coffee low. Sheesh!

I found this very interesting!! I've only ever worked ONE place my entire life, and it was as a waitress at a little restaurant for almost 8 years... soo, I like to hear about other people's experiences in their jobs! Things are rarely as they appear to customers, yes? And speaking of customers, hey can TOTALLY suck... believe me, I know!!

Hmm... peppermint zebra mocha?? This is a new concept to me!! One I must try!!! :)
