Fitness Friday

I get Women's Health Magazine.
There is a lot of good info.
Tips. Tricks. Recipes.
I really enjoy it.

A lot of women only want to do cardio and no strength training because they think it will make them bulky.
So not the case. You MUST do both!!
If you want to see results, you need to have cardio AND strength training as part of your regimen.

In the June issue of my magazine there was a little blurb.
Here is what it says:

While cardio burns slightly more calories than lifting weight, pumping iron will blast more fat overall. For every pound of muscle you gain, your body burns an extra 35 calories a day at rest. Research shows that women who strength train fry more fat post-workout than those who just do cardio. After you hit the weights your muscles expend more energy as they rebuild themselves.

I actually love strength training.
More so than cardio.
I am just not a fan of running.
I do it because it is good for me, but I don't like it.
I mix up running and jumping rope.

A lot of my strength training comes from the sandbag.
My BFF ;)
I use the sandbag for a ton of my work outs. It is 40 pounds.
I use it for arms, back, abs, legs.
It is my main strength training piece of equipment.

I know not everyone is at the point of working out as I am.
That is ok. But start!!
Working out is so important for your mind, body, and let's be honest... your sex life.
Seriously girls it is so true!!

If you don't have weights become creative.
Use your laundry soap {if not in a box}.
Use jars of spaghetti sauce.
Use canned veggies.
Use a bag of apples.

You can use anything. Anything is better than nothing.
If you want it, you have to be creative, determined, and willing to do whatever it takes.

I will be honest with you, I didn't work out on Sunday. I just wasn't in the mood. This was this first day I haven't worked out in 2 weeks.
Now that I typed it, I sound like a couch potato/lazy ass!!

Next time you work out, remember inclue strength training!!

I think next Friday I am going to start giving examples of work outs.
Things that I love. That I do.

I needed to hear this. I like doing weights..I just feel dumb doing them alone b/c I pretty sure I look as dumb as I feel.

But looking tone weighs more than looking dumb :)

YEP! Really, it makes more sense that strength training would burn more. Because after you work out, your body is still workign to repair that muscle and then the muscle burns more calories. I hate cardio also. Unless it's fun like swimming or hiking. Running makes me want to poke my eyes out :) thanks for your knowledge
