Tipping is Optional

Yesterday I went to get a facial.
With the gift card Tony gave me for our anniversary.

It was a wonderful facial.
Much needed.
My hormones are going nutso right now.
I feel like some days I look like a junior higher :(

The girl that did my facial was great.
She didn't talk.
She let me relax.
She was great.

I go to the register to pay.
With the gift card.
It was the exact amount.
All I had to do was sign that the amount was correct and add a tip if I wanted to.

Being that the gift card was the exact amount I didn't leave a tip.
I had no cash and I wasn't about to put a couple dollars on my credit card {we don't use our debit card}.

Then this is what pissed me off.

Guy/Receptionist/Whoeverthehellheis: Did you want to leave a tip?
Me: No, thank you.
Guy: Was the service bad?
Me: No, it was perfect.
Guy: So you don't want to leave anything?
Me: No, I am ok.
{I signed and walked out.}

During this conversation he is giving me the look of death.
I was so pissed off!!
First off, there is nothing saying you MUST give a tip.
Secondly, you DON'T pressure a client into tipping someone.
Thirdly, just because I get a facial doesn't mean I have extra money to leave her a tip.
Lastly, they shouldn't even ask me. If I want to leave a tip, I will. If not, I wont.

It really bothered me. It was awkward. It was rude. It was totally unprofessional.
I decided that I am going to call tomorrow and complain to the manager.

I don't want to be pressured into leaving a tip.
A tip is optional.
100% optional.

I got very upset about this if you can't tell.

After the facial I got to hang out with my mom :)
She is in town for a week.
Always fun to see mom.
Get to hang out with her a couple times this week actually.
Haven't seen her in two months.
I'm not liking this living half way across the country from each other.
She needs to get her butt back here ASAP!!

WOW! I can't believe he actually called you out on it! I have to admit, I'm an OVER-tipper. I always tip more than I probably should. I can't help it, but there have been a few times when I haven't because I used a gift card. How rude for him to say that, though.

Um, yeah, definitely awkward and rude of the guy to do that.

In my opinion, if you liked the service, you should leave a tip. However, sometimes, such as in your case, if you don't have extra money on you, you shouldn't have to tip. No explanation necessary :)

Wow, that was totally inappropriate of that guy! I definitely tip based on service and feel that a tip is earned, not just a given! Good for you for not caving into (rude)pressure!

Did you call??
Because that is horribly awkward!! I don't blame you at all for being pissed. I do hair, and I would never in a million years ask someone to leave me or a co worker a tip. In fact, I feel extremely awkward when people ask me how much they should tip me. Haha I just tell them nothing most of the time because there is no way I'm asking for money!
