in this skin

Did you know you get most of your sun damage before you reach the age of 18?
Did you know that you start aging at the young age of 20?
Did you know we have 4 layers of skin? And most of the issues are lying underneath the epidermis (top layer)
Did you know that 90% of the aging processed is self inflicted and only 10% of it is natural?
Did you know there is no actual way to “shrink” the pore size?
Did you know there is no way to reverse aging effects on the skin?

Hey y’all! My name is Aarika. I’m Lindsay’s sister (you know…her favorite one. The one she always talks about in this blog. Did I mention her favorite one?) I’m here to fill you in on some skin knowledge. I graduated from beauty school last March, so I’m kinda new to the esthetician field but all the knowledge that I have I want to share! So the awesome blogger that Lindsay is has asked me to write the occasional “beauty post”. I won’t let you down ladies!

Let’s start off by addressing the questions above. YES it’s all true!

Of course when you are a child your mom devours you in sunscreen, maybe even the embarrassing white nose look, but after the age of 13 you become a teenager. You know it all! You don’t need no sunscreen! So what do you do? Devour yourself in tanning oil instead with NO SPF. And you love the results because you are tan, which boosts every girls confidence am I right? (tan fat looks better than pasty fat as I always say…) Then you reach your twenties and you start finding spots on your skin that look like they could be freckles, but they’re not! Yikes! Unfortunately your sun spots have arrived. And they are stubborn little spots aren't they? Don’t sweat it ladies, there is a way to make them disappear with the proper skin regimen.

Along with this proper skin regimen, we will be able to prevent any further sun damage and prevent as much of the aging process as we can. I believe Marilyn Monroe had once said that she would never dishonor her face by getting a face lift because every line on her face was well earned! Well, if only we could all feel that way about wrinkles.

There is so much to learn about the skin and how to care for it. The skin care field is evolving every day. Every make up line has a concealer to hide that pimple. Every skin care line has a product that promises to rid your wrinkles. And it doesn't help that commercials advertise false promises. Sorry ladies, but no you cannot get rid of your “parenthesis” in just two days! We all want instant gratification. It’s human nature. We all want the next best thing. Well hopefully with my post today and my future posts I can help you want your skin back! Now, you may need patience, but I promise you that with the right product and proper care you will love your “new” skin!

I’m going to leave you with some tips to end this post!

-Wash your face 2x at night. First cleanse is to remove makeup, dirt, and any impurities you may have on the surface. The second cleanse is to actually clean your pores. If you have an aggressive face cleanser (for example one with salicylic acid), you may want to grab a more gentle one for your first cleanse.
-Invest in a CLARISONIC! I promise you all of your worries will vanish along with all those stubborn blackheads. Yes, it is a little pricey. If you can’t afford the original Clarisonic go for the Clarisonic Mia. It’s the travel size but works just as well. In fact, that’s the one that I have! My skin has changed for the GREATER ever since. And I’m pretty sure I've convinced every female in my family to purchase one. J

-Get your man to wash his face! (I will go into Men’s skincare in a later post).
-If you are not one to care for your skin and have no idea what I am talking about but want to start somewhere here are 3 products to start off with.
                :cleanser
                :moisturizer
                :SPF

“Simple” has a gentle skincare line. I believe they sell it at Target, even Alberstons. DON’T USE NEUTROGENA! They test on animals.

-Last but not least….. USE SUNSCREEN! Here’s a little fun fact about your SPF. Add a zero to the end of your SPF numbers, and that’s the amount of minutes you can wear it in the sun til you need to reapply. For example, if you are wearing an SPF 20, you can wear it for 200 minutes til you reapply. If you are wearing an SPF 15 you can wear it for 150 minutes, etc.

Y’all come back now, ya hear? ;)

Wow an awesome post Aarika. As her mother let me just tell you that if you listen to Aarika and do not beleive all those things you hear on TV and infomercials etc. and take the advice she is handing out ... your skin will look better! Mine does .. and I am not saying this just because she is my daughter! She knows her stuff and continues to learn more everyday! And take her advice and invest in a Clarisonic ... best tool out there for skincare!
